Property Management Services Authority Conducted Exchange with
Chartered Institute of Housing
The Property Management Services Authority (PMSA) conducted exchange today with representatives of the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH), including President Ms Evie Copland, Head of Communications Ms Rachel Martin, as well as representatives of the Chartered Institute of Housing Asian Pacific Branch (CIHAPB), including Chairman Mr Keith Kwong, Deputy Chairlady Ms Angela Chiu and General Manager Mr Stephen Lee. During the meeting, the PMSA introduced the progress and achievement of implementing Hong Kong’s property management (PM) industry licensing regime, as well as its work in promoting professional development of the industry through the three-pronged approach of regulating by licensing, setting professional standard and promoting continuous professional development. The parties also exchanged views on the application of innovative technologies in PM services.
Alan SIU, Chief Executive Officer of the PMSA, said, “Since the implementation of the PM industry licensing regime, the PMSA has been actively engaging and collaborating with local, Mainland and international PM organisations and professional bodies. Through these exchanges, the PMSA shares Hong Kong’s experience in implementing the licensing regime and promoting the professional development of the industry, while drawing reference to good practices in different regions. By leveraging Hong Kong’s unique advantage of backing by the Motherland and well-connected to the global world, the PMSA seeks to continuously enhance the professional standard of Hong Kong’s PM industry and develop wider development opportunities for the industry.”
Mr SIU continued, “With the increasing application of innovative technologies including artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things, PM services are rapidly advancing towards smart and digital transformation. The industry should actively explore how to make good use of technology to address practical operational needs and enhance service efficiency and management effectiveness. It should also look beyond Hong Kong and draw reference from overseas experience and practical examples in applying innovative technology, adapting relevant practices to suit the actual circumstances of different properties in Hong Kong. The PMSA will continue to strengthen collaboration with different PM professional bodies, promote experience sharing and mutual learning, and drive the PM industry towards enhanced quality and professionalism.
Mr SIU further remarked, “CIHAPB is one of the PMSA’s Recognised Professional Bodies and has long been a staunch supporter of PMSA’s work, including encouraging the industry to pursue continuing professional development and keep abreast of the times, support Government policies and actively fulfil the mission of ‘Property Invigilators’. These efforts have made a positive contribution to enhancing the professional status of the PM industry. The PMSA looks forward to continuing to work hand in hand with the CIH and CIHAPB for jointly promoting the continuous and healthy development of the industry.”
Under the PM industry licensing regime, there are currently more than 800 licensed PM companies and over 15,000 licensed PM practitioners providing PM services for different types of properties in Hong Kong. This major professional force not only provides professional PM services to the public, but also dedicates itself to actively contributing towards healthy and sustainable development of the community. They are undoubtedly invaluable assets and vital resources of Hong Kong.
