Exploring the Practical Application of the “iAM Smart” Personal Code
in the Property Management Industry and Privacy Compliance

Dr James WONG, Chairperson of the PMSA, said, “Leveraging innovative technology is a key driving force for the advancement of the PM industry. The PMSA has always actively encouraged the industry to widely adopt innovative technology for promoting the digitalisation of PM services. The ‘iAM Smart’ personal code not only simplifies visitor registration process and improves frontline PM work efficiency, it also strengthens personal data protection and complies with the requirement of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (Cap. 486). Through this seminar, the PMSA aims to enable the industry to gain a deeper understanding of the practical application and compliance requirement of the technology, and to encourage PM practitioners to advance with times and jointly drive the industry towards enhanced professionalism and quality.”

Mr Brian Sun, Assistant Commissioner (Data Applications) of the DPO, said, “The Government has been actively promoting digital transformation across industries. The ‘iAM Smart’ Personal Code function introduced by the DPO precisely provides an innovative solution that supports identity verification while balancing privacy protection. The ‘iAM Smart’ Personal Code allows citizens to display anonymous personal identity information in the format of QR code via ‘iAM Smart’, assisting property management enterprises in easily achieving privacy compliance goals. At present, more than 60 residential estates, government buildings and commercial buildings across the territory have adopted the ‘iAM Smart’ Personal Code to support visitor registration or access control facilities. The DPO hopes that the PM industry will continue to innovate, actively embrace digital technology, and make good use of the ‘iAM Smart’ functions, and flexibly integrate technology into PM services to jointly building a safer, more convenient and more efficient smart city for Hong Kong residents.”

Following the ending of the three-year transitional period of the PM industry licensing regime, the PMSA has commenced mandatory implementation of its CPD Scheme. PM Practitioner licence holders of different tiers are required to receive continuing education in phases with the aim to drive the advancement and raise the professional standard as well as status of the industry. Under the Scheme, PM practitioners (Tier 1) are required to complete a minimum of 12 hours of qualifying CPD activities/courses each year, while PM practitioners (Tier 2) are required to complete a minimum of 6 hours of CPD activities/courses each year. The PMSA has imposed mandatory CPD participation condition on all newly issued or renewed licences since 1 August 2023. Non-compliance may affect future licence renewal.
