Property Management Services Authority Conducted Exchange with
the International Facility Management Association

The Property Management Services Authority (PMSA), with facilitation from its recognised professional body the Hong Kong Chapter of the International Facility Management Association (IFMA), conducted exchange today with IFMA representatives from Singapore and the Mainland, during which the PMSA introduced its work and the progress of implementing the property management (PM) industry licensing regime in Hong Kong. Exchanges were also made in respect of the regulatory arrangements, professional standards and continuing professional development of the PM industry.

Dr James Wong, Chairperson of the PMSA, said, “The world has been active in applying PM technology to facilitate building of smart cities, and society is becoming more aware about the concept of ESG (i.e. environmental protection, fulfilling social responsibility and strengthening corporate governance). This has brought new opportunites and challenges for PM work. The visit of the PMSA by IFMA representatives and the sharing on progress of international PM industry development have helped the PMSA to better understand the latest trend of the global PM industry advancement towards sustainable development, and thus in turn promoting future development of the PM industry of Hong Kong towards professionalism, enhanced quality and advancement.”

Dr James Wong also emphasised, “Under the PM industry licensing regime, over 770 PM companies and more than 14,000 PM practitioners in Hong Kong have already been licensed by the PMSA, providing PM services to over 2.4 million units in different types of properties in Hong Kong. They are a major professional force and invaluable asset and resources in driving the future development of Hong Kong. IFMA’s  visit to the PMSA to conduct exchange reflects that the professionalism of the Hong Kong PM industry is recognised in the international arena, which is encouraging. The PMSA will continue to enhance cooperation with different PM professional bodies across the globe in future, so as to understand and learn from each other PM industry development in different places, thereby promoting healthy development of the industry as a whole, moving sustainability towards enhanced quanlity and professionalism.”

In addition, Dr James Wong and Chief Executive Officer of the PMSA Mr Alan Siu attended IFMA Hong Kong Chapter’s annual event “Integrate 2024 Facility Management Conference” earlier on 9 May to learn more about how the PM industry should work together with the construction and engineering fields to contribute towards sustainable development for enhancement of community quality of living.
